At our recent visit to Phnom Penh we visited the primary school. It was very nice to visit the school and see all the happy children. We had a walk around the school area and looked at the classrooms, the library, the outside area and the ongoing projects. It is impressing to see how much they have achieved in such a short period of time and with limited resources.
A brief update:
School hygiene and sanitation: 10 latrines are under construction. Building of sinks in outdoor area for personal hygiene. Each latrine will have a separate sink for hand wash. The latrine project is scheduled to finish in one month. Water filter to provide clean drinking water.
Promote learning: One of the previous classrooms is now used as Library. The books donated from Room to Read are already in the shelves. We realize there are still not enough books in the library and Norway House will consider supplying more books to support the kids reading development.
Capacity building for teachers: Teachers receive training from Child Rights Foundation to become better teachers.
Other projects since start up:
· Painting of classrooms.
· Planting of trees and establishment of a garden.
· Started to use the recycling bins.
We brought some bags of clothes and toys to be distributed at the school or in the local village based on need.
